Rocky Mountain Tool Features Pelican(TM) Lights - the Industry Leaders in Safety Approvals

HYRUM, Utah, June 30 -- Not everyone thinks about whether their flashlights are approved for use in areas of flammable gases, volatile liquids or combustible dusts -- but the fact is that some lights could trigger an explosive event in a hazardous environment. Fortunately, Pelican(TM) flashlights, available at Rocky Mountain Tool, Inc.'s PelicanProducts.us (http://www.pelicanproducts.us/), have passed rigorous testing by national and international safety agencies, earning more approvals than any other flashlights on the market.

Pelican flashlights carry safety approvals from Underwriters Laboratory, Factory Mutual, Mine Safety Health Association, Canadian Standards Association, International Electrotechnical Commission, Electrical Testing Laboratories, Urban Search and Rescue, and ATEX Europe.

"Pelican lights are some of the safest flashlights available today," said Ben Miller, Rocky Mountain Tool general manager. "Everyone from home users to emergency service crews can choose Pelican flashlights with confidence, knowing they are stable in virtually any situation. We are proud to carry the largest online selection of Pelican lights."

At PelicanProducts.us, Rocky Mountain Tool offers 74 different Pelican flashlights and dive lights, including the popular HeadsUP series flashlights and Pelican's innovative night-vision flashlights, along with six different light kits -- clear polycarbonate cases that fit various sizes of Pelican flashlights and include special knives or compasses.

Industry-leading safety features on Pelican flashlights include the battery polarity tray, which makes it impossible to operate a flashlight if one or more cells are inverted, safeguarding against hydrogen outgassing. Pelican also adds gas-absorbing pellets to its lamp modules; the pellets act as a back-up safety system to absorb excess hydrogen that could otherwise be retained inside the flashlight.

"From police duty to severe underwater environments, Pelican is the proven leader. Our Pelican flashlights are tough, easy to handle, lightweight, convenient and proven safe. Most of all, they are reliable -- especially in hazardous conditions," Miller stated. "Pelican flashlights offer the brightness and safety our customers need, whether in the workplace, during recreation or at home."

Designed to fit in most soft bags and protect laptops up to 15” (including brands such as Apple®, Dell® and Sony®) from the rigors of travel, the 1090 sports a high-impact, heat and chemically resistant, composite shell that will stand up to some of the harshest conditions known to man.

The 1510 LOC lid features a detachable neoprene sleeve that gives travelers immediate access at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints and accommodates the vast majority of laptop computers up to 15.4 inches. The case additionally features a separate roomy detachable pouch that can double as a cord holder or a toiletry bag. The main compartment sports a cloth-lined garment storage unit that can fit up to two day’s worth of clothing.

The dimensions of the case itself are based upon the maximum overhead bin size allowed by airlines and offers nearly 1,800 cubic inches of usable storage space. It also sports stainless steel ball bearing, polyurethane wheels and an extension handle (with an effortless release latch) for easy transport as well as rubberized front and side grips for maximum grip comfort. The case also features stainless-steel, reinforced padlock protectors to defend against cutting and theft.

Like all Pelican Protector™ Cases, the 1510 LOC’s cell-core construction helps it protect sensitive equipment in some of the most extreme conditions on Earth. Additional standard features include a lid equipped with a polymer o-ring for a dust and water tight seal, and an automatic pressure equalization valve that stops moisture from entering the case and prevents vacuum-lock so the case opens easily at any altitude. To ensure easy and immediate access, the 1510 LOC also features double-throw latches that have been tested to a failure threshold of nearly 400 pounds, but open with a light pull. Of course, Pelican Cases can be spotted by the distinctive, trademarked “Dual Band” design. See also 1510 Carry On Case.

Pelican Leads Environmentally Responsible Area Lighting Movement with Strategic Acquisition,

Pelican™ Products, Inc., the global leader in the manufacture of advanced lighting systems and virtually indestructible protective cases, today launched a new division focused on bringing to market environmentally sustainable, energy-efficient and powerful Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting products. The Advanced Area Lighting Group (AALG), known as Peli AALG, LTD., combines Pelican’s nearly 30 years of advanced lighting technology innovation with the expertise and products of the newly acquired Blue i UK Ltd., a European developer of next-generation remote area lighting technology.

“Nearly three decades ago Pelican pioneered an entirely new industry for protective case design and manufacture and is still recognized today as the global leader,” said Lyndon Faulkner, President and CEO of Pelican Products. “We are taking that same pioneering spirit to become the leader in designing and building the most advanced, environmentally safe and energy-efficient lighting technology on the market. The lighting industry hasn’t even scratched the surface in effectively integrating LED technology into commercial applications for lighting large areas. That is the sole focus of Pelican’s AALG and the major reason we have acquired Blue i.”

The new area lighting systems being designed and built by Pelican are harnessing the power, reliability and energy-efficiency of LED technology. This presents new commercial applications beyond the company’s rugged and powerful handheld flashlights that are used by militaries and first responders as well as industrial and hazardous settings around the world. Pelican, along with the team from Blue i, is already delivering a battery-powered portable area lighting system that provides 15 hours of continuous light and approximately 50,000 hours LED lifespan for such end users as nighttime road construction crews, railway engineers and first responders. The systems offer users the ability to illuminate a large work area without the fuel consumption, noise and air pollution associated with today’s industrial diesel generator-powered lighting towers that use energy-zapping outdated light bulb technology.

While Pelican was in the process of forming its new lighting research and development division, the company became aware of Blue i and its line of rugged and portable area lighting products. They entered into discussions to combine the unconditionally guaranteed durability and effectiveness of Pelican’s cases and lights with Blue i’s environmentally responsible approach to building next-generation area lighting systems. Blue i was started three years ago by two British lighting industry experts with the goal of developing leading-edge lighting systems that use futuristic technology and are safe for the environment. The company’s founders, Neil Walker and Darren Judd, were recognized last year for Blue i’s success as finalists for HSBC’s annual “Start-up Stars” Awards in the U.K. for new and growing businesses. Now the two join Pelican’s lighting group to continue inventing the future of advanced lighting.

From the first time we sat down with Neil and Darren, we were impressed with their collective expertise in lighting innovation and loved the complementary products they were bringing to market,” said Faulkner. “Blue i’s approach to technology innovation and standing behind their products was an ideal fit for Pelican and our long-term lighting strategy. We are extremely excited to bring Blue i’s products into the Pelican family and continue leading the way for what’s next in commercial lighting.”

Thanks to the added expertise of Blue i’s founders, Pelican’s AALG is taking the issue of sustainability head-on as it develops new LED lighting systems and products. Pelican believes the consumer debate raging over incandescent and compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs is just one small part of the lighting efficiency discussion. LED technology is proven to be light years ahead of current bulbs and burns 50 times longer than incandescent bulbs and eight times longer than CFLs, and requires less energy to do so. Additionally, CFLs contain mercury and pose a serious environmental threat; LEDs operate with chips made of nontoxic materials that are completely recyclable.
